Partition server 2000

Partition Magic can not work perfectly with Windows NT/Windows 2000 Server. Usually, when mention partition, we are more likely to think of Partition Magic, which is almost the originator of partition management software, the earliest and the best partition management software. But for so many years, this software upgrade has been slow and accidents often happen during the operation course leading to boot failure. Moreover, Partition Magic cannot work well with windows server 2000 or other server. Such is selected from a user on website as follows:

During the process of disk scan, disk tracks were found on G disk, so I intended to separate the damaged track on disk G with Pqmagic6.0 Chinese version to avoid spreading of the damaged tracks. However, when I boot Pqmagic with DOS, the program went wrong. A warning popped up: Partition Magic is unable to work with Windows NT/Windows 2000 Server. After you click Yes, the program logout automatically. This was not my expected. Earlier, Pqmagic went on well with the computer installed with Windows 2000 in the company. It seemed that that was Windows 2000 professional in the company and this was Windows 2000 server. The warning indicated that Pqmagic was incompatible with Windows 2000 Server. I thought it was caused by the difference between boot and professional. I tried to boot Windows 98 in DOS environment and start Pamagic but the same error happened.

Since it has nothing to do with program, there maybe some file under the root directory of disk C causing Pqmagic fail to rum. So I backed up all the file under the root directory of disk C and delected files related with Windows 2000 to find that only if Boot. ini exist, Pqmagic failed to operate and once I changed the name of Boot. ini and start Pqmagic, there was no problem.

I covered the file with the same name with Boot. ini file in Windows 2000 professional after backing up Boot. ini file and start Pqmagic. This time, nothing is wrong. So it is the Boot. ini file that caused Pqmagic unable to run. I compared these two versions of Boot. ini and found there were two differences between them. one is the version name of Windows 2000. I thought Pqmagic recognized the version of Windows 2000 by Boot. ini so I changed Advanced Server into Professional but this time Pqmagic still fail to run only to find there is a space before and after which is not found on Server. So I added these two spaces on Server and start Pqmagic. The error did not occur this time.

To prove it, I deleted Windows 2000 professional and install Windows 2000 server, then change the Boot. ini file as above. The change had no influences on the running of Windows 2000 at all. The question found its answer at last. I think all this is because Microsoft aim to distinguish professional from server to guarantee the stability of Server version.

This is only from research. It is suggested that server users should buy legal software. Here, MiniTool Partition Wizard Server Edition, the best server partition software, which is powerful at low cost, is recommended. It is a priority for server system partition management software.
