Partition windows server 2003

How to partition windows server 2003 with server partition software? What kinds of Windows server tools are there? Is it possible to resize separate partition with non - Windows server tools?

Resize partition is to enlarge or shrink disk partitions to meet the needs. Most users would like to use MiniTool Partition Wizard Server Edition to solve this problem. Actually, Windows XP/Server 2003 users can enlarge partitions with the Enlarge disk partition in the built in disk management functions. Here we would like to talk about that.

1. Leave out free space.

If we want to enlarge disk D by 50 MB, this 50MB space should be left out from disk E. How to leave out the 50 MB space from disk E?

First, move all data on disk E onto other place, then click start and Run, input "Diskmgmt. msc", then enter to open the interface of disk management. Select partition E and right click mouse, then select delete this logical drive in the menu. Then confirm the operation to click YES. After that, disk 0 shall list the available free space equals to deleted space.

2. Increase the disk partition size.

Now we notice that the current space of disk D is 855 MB. We shall increase it by 50 MB. Click Start > program > Accessory > cmd, then input four commands by sequence "Diskpart", "List volume", "Select volume 2", "Extend Size=50".

Of which, "diskpart" is to wake up the disk management program in DOS. Diskpart/? can help users to check the help info in DOS. List Volume can show the detail info on all disks on systems. From which, we can learn the drive letter of the partition that needs to be resized.

Now the drive letter for disk "2". We can select this drive with the command "Select Volume 2", with "Extend Size=50" we can increase the size of disk D. From the result of commands "DiskPart succeed", we manage to increase the disk D as the picture shows:

Finally, select the rest free space in the disk management interface, click the following by sequence : Operation > all tasks > Create logical drive", assign drive letter, or format partition.

However, this method is of great risks, if you are not familiar with cmd, or any mistakes, there would be great damage to data on windows server disks. So the professional partition software is highly recommended.
